FINALLY WE HAVE RAIN (BUT IT HAS BEEN A REALLY TESTING YEAR SO FAR….)
It perhaps seems odd to be writing this blog now, after a couple of days of glorious and much needed rain, but the weather has certainly been testing this season. During months of exceptionally hot, dry conditions, our fields received very little natural rainfall. While many people have been enjoying the sunshine, for those growing medicinal herbs, it has meant long days and constant vigilance to ensure our crops continue to flourish.
Across our 15 acres of biodynamically managed land, over 300,000 medicinal plants have been growing through what should be one of their most productive periods. However, due to the lack of rain in this critical period, from dawn until dusk, our team has been working tirelessly to provide the water these herbs need to survive.
Unlike conventional crops, our medicinal herbs are grown with the intention of becoming high-quality herbal medicines. Every plant matters. Each one represents months of careful planning, sowing, nurturing and stewardship before it reaches harvest.
Biodynamic farming is built on working with nature rather than against it. Healthy soils rich in organic matter help retain moisture for longer, and diverse ecosystems create resilient plants. However, even the healthiest soil has its limits during prolonged periods without rain.
That is why irrigation became an essential part of our daily routine. Every day, we monitored soil conditions, assessed each field, and ensured the herbs received just enough water to remain healthy, while continuing to develop the valuable compounds that make them effective medicinal plants.
The work doesn’t stop in the field. Once harvested, our herbs are processed just a short distance away in our on-site cGMP and MHRA-approved manufacturing facility. Having cultivation and manufacturing in one location allows us to maintain exceptional standards of quality, traceability and freshness from field to finished herbal medicine.
Although the weather has created extra challenges, it has also highlighted the dedication of our farming team. Their commitment ensures that every bottle, tincture and herbal preparation begins with plants that have been cared for every step of the way.
Growing medicinal herbs is never just about producing a crop. It’s about nurturing the living plants that form the foundation of natural healthcare. Even during the hottest and driest of summers, that commitment remains at the heart of everything we do.
