That is why we grow many of the herbs used in our fresh organic tincture range ourselves, before processing them in our own cGMP manufacturing facility. This unique connection between farm and manufacturing gives us an exceptional level of traceability — from the moment a herb is planted, through cultivation and harvesting, right through to the finished bottle.
Knowing where your herbs come from
With many herbal products, there can be several steps between the cultivation of a plant and the finished product. Raw materials may pass through growers, traders, processors and distributors before reaching a manufacturer. Every additional step can make it more difficult to establish exactly where an ingredient originated and how it was handled. At Rutland Biodynamics, we have much greater control over this process.
Our biodynamic farm provides the starting point for our fresh organic tinctures. We know what we grow, where it is grown and how it has been cultivated. For us, traceability isn’t simply a record on a spreadsheet. It starts with the plant itself.
From field to bottle
Our fresh herbs can be harvested at the point we consider them ready and then macerated into tincture on the same day. This creates a direct link between the crop in the field and the finished herbal preparation. We can trace the journey through key stages including:
Cultivation → Harvest → Processing → Extraction → Manufacturing → Quality Control → Bottling
At each stage, appropriate records and controls provide a documented history of the product. This is particularly important when producing herbal medicines, where consistency, quality and patient safety are fundamental.
Growing our own herbs makes a difference
One of the things that makes Rutland Biodynamics different is the relationship between our farm and our manufacturing operation. We aren’t simply buying a dried botanical from an unknown source and turning it into a tincture. For our own-grown range, we start with plants cultivated on our own biodynamic farm. That gives us a level of oversight that is difficult to achieve when the agricultural and manufacturing processes are separated by multiple suppliers. It also allows us to understand our raw material at source — from the conditions in which it was grown through to the point at which it enters our manufacturing process.
